I make no secret of my struggles with mental health.

C-PTSD, PTSD, Panic Disorder, AuDHD, Depression, and Anxiety. Quite the list, eh?

Something else I do have that I never thought would be connected was Diabetes. How? Funny you should ask.

Recently, I've been trying out a new medication management provider (separate from my therapist, who I've been with for nearly a decade). My last one was lovely, but I believe the office started assigning too many patients to her and I was told she couldn't be seen for months...despite me being an established patient and really only needing a refill of previously prescribed medication.

A joke of a statement when speaking about mental health. Luckily, I wasn't suicidal.

I switched to this new provider and was given the generic version of Zoloft, which was fucking awful. If there was a side effect, I had it. Then she put me on the generic of Abilify. Both of these medications are considered SSRIs, or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors.

Here's the issue. The provider seemed to forget that I'm a diabetic. My sugars run high as it is and I work very hard to keep them down. So, when I passed out the other day, falling into the bookcase that holds my modem, luckily waking up only a few minutes later (I think) with minimal injuries, I knew to take my blood sugar. I was unable to find my meter and quickly reached out to a virtual clinic provider (the miracles of modern medicine), who ordered me a meter and some supplies (I have a regular appointment next week with my primary care provider). I rushed home and took my blood test.

It was over 400.

When I was speaking to the provider, she seemed very confused about me being put on an SSRI, almost concerned. So I asked her why, she said, "Because SSRI medications will cause spikes in glucose levels."

What?

I'm already struggling with this shit and no consideration was provided. I'm...dissatisfied. I'm going to put my foot down. My med lady is already taking her sweet time putting me back on my ADHD medication, which I asked her to cover first, but she didn't want to. I see her on August 4th. Hopefully things will go well again because I'd hate to change providers so soon.

I just need something to work.
